Act for climate

The idea of “scientific neutrality” is a figment of the imagination, and as a scientist, “lucidity” seems more appropriate (Berlan, 2023) and leads quite naturally to personal commitment

2024: Signature of a tribune from Scientist Rebellion against right-wing extremism.

2024: I and 260 other ocean (and climate) specialists sign a tribune in Le Monde: “our scientific community is becoming increasingly distrustful of political power”.

2023: Signature with atecopolam of a counter-tribune to the “Manhattan of ecological transition” project

2023: As a scientist, I signed the open letter from 600 scientists to the Board of Directors of BNP Paribas: “You must stop supporting new oil and gas projects” and took part in the SR action (article in La Provence, new publication). I also signed a petition calling on European heads of state to introduce a Financial Transaction Tax to finance climate policies.

2023: Participation in a round table on the environmental impact of resaerch as part of the Human Movement Sciences doctoral school day, Montpellier

2022: As a scientist, I signed the appeal by 1,400 scientists urging the presidential candidates and the media to get away from “the rhetoric of inaction”. Production of a video as part of SR’s action at the Natural History Museum in Paris

2021: The state is condemned for climate inaction. As a citizen, and like more than 2 million other French people, I joined the “affaire du siècle” appeal.

2021: As a scientist, I took part in the counter-summit organized by XR at Prado beach (Marseille) to denounce the “green washing” of the World Conservation Congress, for which I nevertheless presented a climate fresk!

2021: As a member of the association “la fresque du climat“, I took part in COP26 in Glasgow (Scotland) for the internationalization of the fresk.

2020: as a member of the Global Scientists Alliance, I signed the appeal: “Global Scientists Call for Economic Stimulus to Address Climate Adaptation and Covid“.

2020: Like over 1,000 scientists, I have signed SR’s “Faced with the ecological crisis, rebellion is necessary“: Press review 2020: Interview on local radio station “Radio Grenouille” for the program “à vous le studio

2019: Why universities must declare a state of ecological and climate emergency

2019: Pourquoi les universités doivent déclarer l’état d’urgence écologique et climatique

2019: The Labos 1.5 initiative to collectively transform research

I have signed the call for a scientific transition

2019: Conference at the Fête de la Sciences for the 80th anniversary of the CNRS: “The ocean and climate change, and the history of the OUTPACE oceanographic campaign”.

2019: Like 11,000 other scientists, I signed the publication “Warning of climate emergency” published in Biosciences by Van Ripple et al., 2019.

2018: Like 700 other scientists, I signed the tribune published in Libération on 09-09-2018. Faced with the urgency highlighted this summer by a succession of ecological disasters, 700 French scientists mobilize in “Libération”, urging France’s rulers to move from incantation to action to finally move towards a carbon-free society. Especially as the solutions are available.

2017: March for Science

2015: Invited by Campus France to present the Oceanography Master’s degree and the OUTPACE oceanographic campaign at COP 21 in Paris (public presentation in the pavilion « France »).
